Boils, and Carbuncles and Pus. Oh, My!

Boils, and Carbuncles and Pus. Oh, My!

“Thou art a boil, a plague sore, an embossed carbuncle in my corrupted blood.” –Shakespeare, King Lear

Goodbye, Wisdom Teeth! Hello, Homeopathy!

Adam and Eve had many advantages, but the principle one was that they escaped teething. ~Mark Twain–

One of the very best reasons for having children is to be reminded of the incomparable joys of a snow day. — Susan Orlean

This year we had a late snow storm, and even though my 4 kids are big, they all jumped at the chance to go sledding.  (It’s so nice now when they are older and I don’t have to help them all get their snow stuff on.)  But when they came home a few hours later, spewing their wet things into the entry way, I quickly found that all was not right with 17-year-old Caleb. Too Much of a Good Thing?

Too Much of a Good Thing?

My doctor told me I had to stop throwing intimate dinners for four unless there are three other people.  – Orson Welles

Christmas and New Year’s Eve can often be a time of over-indulgence with all the yummy treats and snacks. What can you do to feel better after too much of a good thing? Read the rest of this entry »

A Pox on You!

IMG_3614 - Copy“‘Tis healthy to be sick sometimes.”
–Henry David Thoreau

Chicken Pox!  What used to be a childhood rite of passage is becoming less common to see.  That’s why I was surprised when 12-year-old Molly sat down at the kitchen table with a face covered in red spots.
